Archived 21/1/2007  The Go Troppo Triathlon results are here.

29/08/06 The Troppo Triathlon entry form for 2006 is available here.

30/07/06 The Clubs Annual General Meeting will be held August 17th.

21/07/06  With Townsville's own Go Troppo Triathlon only 2 months away there is lots to do. The course has been organised. The swim is straight off our beautiful Strand. It has flat and smooth surfaces for the ride and run. It is scenic and spectator friendly. Any offers of help will be accepted and appreciated. Also if anyone is interested in sponsoring this event, or may know someone that may be interested please let us know. A hand full of people have been keeping this club and this event alive for you, the people who enjoy multisport. We're not doing it for our own personal gain. So please help if you can and get in touch with us by phone or email. Or alternatively, turn up at the next club meeting.

Another well organised local event is the Townsville Rockwheelers Mountain Bike Club's Paluma Push. Again an event put together by a dedicated band of people with a passion for the sport. This truly is an enjoyable event worthy of everyone's support. Get yourself up to Paluma on Sunday, 23rd of July.

Quite a few local athletes travelled to Cairns to compete in the sportfest. Marty Lewis, Jesse Kuskopf, Max Fegan and others. If you have any photos or articles from this weekend, pass them on to us, if you like, and we can post them on the web. Check the full results at the race website.

30/05/06 June is just about on top of us, a busy month for all who enjoy multisport. Runs, open water swims, tri's, a bit of off road/adventure racing, you name it, it's happening. This weekend we have the Saunders Beach Tri and the King/Queen of the Castle Fun Run/Ride.

Results and the report for the latest Townsville Triathlon Club Triathlon #3 are posted. This leaves Go Troppo as the next club event on 24th September. There's plenty of time to train for this, the club's biggest event for the year and plenty of events to hone the skills. If any one is keen to help out with this event, just contact the committee. If anyone wants to, or knows anyone who might like to sponsor this event contact one of the committee members also.

15/05/06 Lots of events coming up, and the temperatures are cooling down, sort of. A good time of the year to be a tri/multisport athlete in North Queensland.

The annual Ayr Sugar Rush is on Sunday 21st May at Anzac Park in Ayr. Rego open at 6am. Entries are accepted on the day. $1000 prizemoney and $1500 in spot prizes. Entry includes water and sports drinks, post-race BBQ breakfast (including McDonalds????) and entry to random prize draws.

October 14 is the day set down for the annual Bowen triathlon.  It's a Saturday arvo event again followed by a BBQ. This is a TQ sanctioned event. Nominate online at the TQ website or on the day.

Darren Meinicke has let me know that his triathlon training crew are in prep for Coral Coast, Saunders Beach etc.  Many hope to compete at Yeppoon.  They are all competing in the Sugar Rush and the Townsville running festival.  They ride Wed 5:30am and Run Sat 6:30am.  A regular group swim is being planned. So if you're down that way look them up at Adrenaline Health and Fitness. Also an organised race is planned for later in the year, either a duathlon or the Ayr triathlon that is normally run in October.

Next weekend sees Townsville's first Rogaine event. Sounds like a lot of fun, get along and support these guys. Then on Sunday is the clubs next tri at Aplins Weir. Then for the following four weekends in a row there are local events on too.

Scott Penny from AAA Fitness in Cairns has sent a flyer of upcoming Ironman Tours. Have a look here if you're interested.

Congrats to all who competed at the LJ Hooker Triathlon on 30 April in Mackay. TTC triathletes, Clayton Bennett and Eric Coull travelled to Mackay to race. Clayton finished a credible 9th, amongst some pretty hot competition, in a time of 2:18:26. Eric was 31st in 2:40:59. Anyone I missed, sorry, let me know.

01/05/06 Luke is running his open water/ multisport sessions from Tobruk Pool on Saturday mornings again this year. He will start these sessions at 7.30a.m. The first one will be on the 20th of May so note it down in your calendar and get along for a brilliant workout and it costs nothing too.

Our next Triathlon is on the 28th of May with a extra longer distance format for those who want more of a hitout. We have been told that the weed will be cleared from the swim course on the day before the race. This will make a brilliant swim, and event, even better.

25/4/06 The recent local club triathlon results have been posted. Check them out on the results and pics page.

With the Go Troppo Triathlon less than half a year away there is plenty to be done. Please come along to the club meeting this Thursday night at TopBrand Cycles on Charters Towers Road at 6.30pm.Your support with this event is essential to it's successful running.

The third Ironman Western Australia is just under 32 weeks away, the perfect time to start training for it. There is a bit of talk among members about attending this event, so a 'club' participation in this event may happen. Let us know if you are even vaguely interested in competing and we'll keep you informed of what eventuates.

Archived 12/ 7 / 2006 Good Luck to travelling triathletes, Marty Lewis, Peter Hughes, Peter Elliott, Vanessa Holmes, Andrew and Cindy McCutchan, Rob and Mia Simmons, Sean Holt, Rowan Carr, Corrie Benson, Aaron Hill, Brad Skinner, and Jesse Kuskopf who are off to compete in the Mooloolaba Triathlon this weekend.

Stuart Borwick, Gregor Mitchell, Louise Abraham, from Townsville and Alan Moustakas and Tony Felesina, from Ayr are heading down to Port Macquarie in the next week or two for the Australian Ironman. Don't forget if you're online around Sunday 4th April, check out how they're going on the day at http://www.ironman.com/, or how they did at IronmanOz's web. Good luck to all, results will be posted here shortly after the races are over.

Townsville has some open water swims to look forward to and support, including the continuance of the Magnetic Island to Townsville Swim. The Port of Townsville have taken up sponsorship of this event to ensure it's survival. Check out the Calendar for all the details of this and other races.

There's a bit of a buzz about town about the upcoming Triathlons, so with just under a week to go, I hope we are all training and getting ready for it. Check out what it's all about and be there at Aplins Weir, Annandale (side of river), 19th March at 6am.

Sean Hayes from up Cairns way has organised a bus for the Julia Creek Dirt'n'Dust Festival. The bus will load up and leave Cairns at 7pm Thursday 30th March then come to Townsville, arriving around 11pm. Anyone interested in going from Townsville will be picked up then and go on to Julia Creek, arriving early Friday. Sounds like a hassle-free, all inclusive way of enjoying a fantastic event. Every triathlete has to do at least one Dirt'n'Dust Triathlon, even Brad Beven has.

The New Zealand Ironman Triathlon may have been reduced to a Half Iron Distance Duathlon but three local athletes faired well despite the conditions. Alan Jefferson finished in a time of 4.02.11 in a credible 22nd place overall, which, from what I've heard has earned him a spot in Hawaii. Darren Meinicke finished 113th overall in a time of 4.18.04 and Carl Mamers completed the 90k bike and 21k run in 4.55.43, 493rd position. Congratulations to these three and anyone else who competed.

Archived 15/ 5 / 2006 Jesse Kuskopf competed at the Luke Harrop Memorial Triathlon on the Gold Coast on the weekend. Waiting to hear how he went. If you know of anyone travelling away to race let me know.

The final Aquathon of Summer 2006 has been run and won. Results should be in the Townsville Bulletin Monday or Tuesday.

Renewed sponsors are Neverfail Springs. Continued support is from Sportsco, Stockland and TopBrand Cycles, and Tobruk Pool. Don't forget to support those that support you and don't forget to mention the Townsville Triathlon Club.

In three weeks time we start our Triathlons. Aplins Weir, Annandale (side of river), 19th March at 6am. Distances are 250m swim/7.5k ride/2k run  and 500m swim/15k ride/5k run.

Don't forget next weekend, Sunday March 5th is the Dash for Cash from Queens Park in Paxton St. This is a great event run by Townsville Road Runners, so get down there and enjoy yourself and support these guys in the process.

Good Luck to  Jesse Kuskopf travelling to the Luke Harrop Memorial triathlon on the Gold Coast.

Townsville triathlete, Alan Jefferson and Ayr's Darren Meneicke are off to Ironman New Zealand. They've been putting in the long hours of training and even Alan's encounter with the bitumen during a training ride recently hasn't dulled the motivation and enthusiasm. If you run into these guys in your travels, wish them the best. If you're online on Saturday 4th March, check out how they're going on www.ironmanlive.com
